Meeting Locations

All skates start in central or eastern Jefferson County, Kentucky. Most of the courses take us through low traffic areas such as parks, neighborhoods and secondary streets. Occasionally we have to cross a busier road, such as Shelbyville, Lexington, Frankfort, Bardstown, Blankenbaker, Brownsboro, etc. When doing so, we always obey traffic rules and cross with traffic at the cross-walks. Obviously there is a little danger involved in this sport, from ourselves and the people we share the roads with. For this reason we strongly recommend that safety gear be worn at all times.

There is more than one course at each meeting location. The list below attempts to describe the more common courses, but the skate captains like to mix things up a little from time to time.

Bluegrass Industrial Park: [map]
Take I-64 exit 17 to Blankenbaker Pkwy South. Right on Bluegrass Pkwy. Left on Decimal Drive, Then left into the first parking lot. This is typically a Sunday skate route, although it does well during the week in the Summer months. We travel the country roads east toward Fisherville or Taylorsville and back. For a Tuesday or Thursday skate, we can travel to Middletown and on through Plainview before returning back to the industrial park.

Cherokee Park: [map]
In the first parking lot off Lexington Rd, East of Grinstead Drive. Take I-64 exit 8 to Grinstead Drive, then left on Lexington Road. This is a great Tuesday or Thursday night skate. It is also the location of the Saturday afternoon instructional skate. We can skate the park loop, then head into the Highlands, Seneca, St. Matthews, or even Crescent Hill before returning. We can also skate to Waterfront Park and do the River Walk from this location.

Dairy Queen: [map]
9515 US Hwy 42 in Prospect, just south of River Road. This is solely a Sunday skate. This route might travel down Rose Island Road to Mayo Lane (and beyond?), or we could travel up US Hwy 329 to Sleepy Hollow, Crestwood or Buckner.

Fridays: [map]
9900 Linn Station Rd in Plainview. I-64 exit 15 to Hurstbourne Pkwy North. Right on Linn Station Road, which veers to the right at the next light. Another good weekday skate, this route travels through Plainview and Middletown in a nice, big circle. Longer routes might head into Anchorage.

Golf World: [map]
13500 Factory Lane. I-265 exit 30. Turn right at Thornton's Gas and Food Mart. The driving range is about a quarter mile on the right. This Sunday skate travels around Pewee Valley towards Shelby County, and back. In the summer months, we can do a weekday skate through Pewee Valley, Anchorage and/or Middletown.

Long Run Park: [map]
This park stradles the Jefferson/Shelby County line. Go east on Shelbyville Rd, Just past Eastwood. Turn left on Flat Rock Rd. The park is on the right past the Polo Fields subdivision, but before the public golf course. We meet in the parking lot by the basketball court. This is another pure Sunday route. We usually travel the country roads towards Shelbyville or Fisherville.

Middletown Library: [map]
200 N Juneau Dr at Middletown Government Center, behind McDonalds. This is probably the easiest skate on the list. We typically skate from Middletown, to Anchorage, and back. An alternate route travels to Plainview, and back. These routes are for Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Rolling Fields: [map]
3701 Old Brownsboro Rd. We meet in the back parking lot of the 2nd Presbyterian Church, at the end of Chenoweth Lane. This site has two main routes for Tuesdays and Thursdays. The first travels through St. Matthews, Seneca and maybe Cherokee Park. The second path is a little hilly, traveling down to Cox's Park, then winding around the Crescent Hill and St. Matthews Neighborhoods.

Springhurst Kroger: [map]
At Stockyards Bank at corner of Hurstbourne Pkwy and Brownsboro Road. This Sunday skate runs down Wolf Pen Branch Road to either River Road or Sleepy Hollow. In the Summertime, we can make this a weekday skate by stopping short of Sleepy Hollow, or we can skate past Tom Sawyer Park to Anchorage and back.

Waterfront Park: [map]
Meet at the parking lot on River Rd under and just downstream of the I-65 bridge (a.k.a. the orange lot). This is the lot nearest to the playground equipment. The River Walk to Shawnee Park is an excellent weekday skate in the Summer. As a second choice, we also do a Louisville Landmark skate. This route takes us from the park, to the hospitals, through St. James Court, past the University of Louisville, Churchill Downs, Papa John's Cardinal Stadium, through the Kentucky Fairgrounds, Cherokee Park, past Slugger Field, and back to Waterfront Park. We should charge admission for this one (but we don't).

Woodlawn Shopping: [map]
291 N Hubbards Lane at Westport Rd. We meet behind the Blockbuster Video in the Woodlawn Shopping Center. This typical weekday skate travels through St. Matthews to the Seneca and Cherokee Park area, then past the Jewish Community Center and Ruth's Chris Steakhouse.
