Welcome to The Louisville Masterbladers' official website. We are a diverse group of inline skate fitness enthusiasts dedicated to skating hard and having fun! We live, work, and play in the metropolitan area of Louisville, Kentucky. We have four organized skates per week, ranging from recreational to fitness/aerobic. The outings usually cover anywhere from 10 to 20 miles! For more information on distance, or meeting locations, click on the links above. We do not have membership dues. Anyone interested in a good outdoor aerobic workout is welcome.

Skating is a fantastic low impact aerobic workout. It is drastically easier on the joints when compared to running, but is still a better aerobic workout than cycling. A recent study conducted by the University of Massachusetts found that inline skating, when compared to running, causes less than 50 percent of the impact shock to joints. According to Dr. Carl Foster of the University of Wisconsin Medical School, inline skating is a better anaerobic workout than both running or cycling because it develops more muscle groups in the legs and lower torso. A separate study conducted at the Human Performance Laboratory at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota also found that inline skating develops muscles in the entire upper leg, rear end and hip, as well as the lower back. Perhaps this is why inline skating participation has increased by over 1000% in the past decade! (source: National Sporting Goods Association) Inline skating is also a great way to cover a large territory and take in some beautiful scenery.

We currently have over forty members in our midst. The ages of our members range from twenty to seventy-something, but don't let the ages fool you. Some of our best and fittest skaters are pushing the high end of this range! Many of our members are also joggers, bicyclists, skiers, wind surfers, tennis players - the list goes on and on. If we haven't tried it, we want to.

We also like to meet new people. Check out our schedule and come join us sometime. We skate all year long, as long as the roads are dry. Just check the distance link above to determine which skate you should attend first. Of course, the colder it is, the fewer the turn out. But as long as the temperature's over 20°, somebody will be there. No, I don't mean Celsius.
